Dr. Summer Kassmel - DDS, Director/Instructor

Summer attended Fort Hays State University before attaining her doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2002. She practiced in Greeley, Colorado before making the Vail Valley her permanent home. She has practiced in Eagle, Colorado since 2004. She is a member of American Dental Association, Colorado Dental Association, Western Colorado Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, as well as local study groups. Dr. Kassmel started the dental assisting school to help better the lives of all those seeking to become professionals in the dental field without the hassle of driving to Denver or Grand Junction. She is excited to bring this program to the Vail Valley.

Amy Meryhew, RDH - Instructor

Amy is a 1997 graduate of Colorado Northwestern Community College where she received her degree in Dental Hygiene. Upon graduation, Amy moved to the Vail Valley where she has been working in private practice since. She is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association. Amy has served as Vice President for the Colorado Dental Hygienists' Association, and represented the Western Slope Dental Hygienists' Society on the Board of Trustees. Amy has been on the Advisory Committee for Colorado Northwestern Community College since 1998. Amy is currently working for Dr. Summer Kassmel as a hygienist at Castle Peak Dental in Eagle, Colorado. She is married to Jesse Meryhew and has one daughter, Jacey. Amy has been with the dental assisting school since it began and loves teaching students how to be competent and professional assistants. Students enjoy Amy's vast amount of knowledge and patience as students are learning.

Shaylynn Harris, Registrar/ Administrator/Instructor

Shay was born in Grand Junction, Colorado and was raised in the Vail Valley. Shay is a 2013 graduate of Colorado Northwestern Community College where she received her Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene. Upon graduation, Shay moved back to the Vail Valley and is starting her family with the upcoming birth of son, Ryker in January 2017. Shay is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association. Shay is married to Troy Harris. Teaching is a passion for Shay and students find her warm and caring.

 

Kylee Montoya - Instructor

Dental Assistant School Instructor

Kylee Montoya was a dental assistant for over 2 years at Castle Peak Dental before attending hygiene school at Community College of Denver. She graduated in 2016 with her degree in hygiene. She is currently working in Avon as a full-time hygienist. Kylee started teaching at VVDA in 2014. She enjoys the one-on-one time with the students and ensuring each student is fully prepared for a career in dental assisting. She is married to Ben Montoya and they have a boxer named Bowser. Kylee has superb experience in hygiene and assisting to aid students in understanding concepts easier. The students love her friendly, but professional demeanor.

 

Racheal Morgan - Instructor

Racheal graduated from the Vail Valley Dental Assisting School in 2015 and is excited to be part of the dental field. She is currently working at Castle Peak Dental and loves being a dental assistant! She is married to Cassidy Richards has two daughters, Reygan and Kaylie, and a dog named Dexter. Racheal has found she is passionate about helping other people become professional dental assistants! Our students appreciate her energetic and compassionate approach.
